Introduction

A compelling monologue performance by writer/photographer Haleh Anvari, exploring the representation of Iranian women in the West and in Iran. Power of a Cliché focuses on the black chador as visual shorthand for Iran, and its use as an icon both inside and outside the country.

Using over 200 photographs from private and public archives, Anvari steers us on a personal and cultural journey with the chador questioning its role over the past 30 years in shaping the image and psyche of the nation.

The performance is followed by discussion and audience Q&A chaired by Professor Germaine Greer.
