Daniel Norman, Tenor

Daniel Norman has established himself in a wide repertoire, ranging from Handel, Bach and Monteverdi to Ligeti, Tippett and Adès. Equally at home in opera, concert, recital and recording, he has recently contributed to Graham Johnson's complete Schubert Edition for Hyperion, performed all five of Britten’s Canticles in a staged production with London’s homeless in Westminster Abbey, sung the role of Tanzmeister in Ariadne auf Naxos with Sir Simon Rattle, and appeared on Television as the Electrician in Almeida Opera’s production of Adès’s Powder Her Face. He was critically acclaimed for his Proms debut singing Sam in Weill’s Street Scenes and for his Peter Quint in The Turn of the Screw in a new production for Porto 2001. In the last year he has appeared with the Bavarian State Opera, Paris Opera, sung the role of Albert Herring with Kent Opera, played Chairman Mao in Boston and released a recording with the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet.

Mark Swartzentruber, Piano

Mark Swartzentruber’s recordings of Scarlatti, Beethoven, Schubert and Schumann on Sony and Solo Records have won critical acclaim in the international music press. He has performed for many festivals, clubs and concert series throughout Europe, the United States and the Far East and has appeared regularly in recital in London venues such as Wigmore Hall, the South Bank’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Purcell Room and St John’s Smith Square. He has broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio 4 and Classic FM. He established the Swartzentruber Piano Trio last year and enjoys chamber music partnerships with some of the country’s finest string players including members of the Allegri String Quartet and the Raphael Ensemble. He has also collaborated in concerts and recordings with Guo Yue (Chinese flute) and Joji Hirota (Japanese percussion). His latest CD, of Haydn Sonatas, will be released later this year.
