Introduction
Farzaneh Khojandi, one of the most outstanding contemporary poets of Tajikistan, and indeed one of the most significant contemporary poets writing in the Persian language, will be on a rare visit to the UK as part of the 2008 World Poet's Tour sponsored by the Poetry Translation Centre.
Her prominence, influence and popularity have transcended the national borders of her homeland and she is held in high esteem by readers and critics of her poems in Iran, her native Tajikistan and in Afghanistan.
Farzaneh is the author of numerous volumes of poetry including Ayat-e 'Eshgh, Signs of Love; Payam-e Niyakan, Message of the Ancestors and Qatre-yi az Muliyan, A Drop from the Oxus.
Her latest collection of poems entitled Suz-e Natamam, Unending Sigh, was published in Iran in 2007. Selections of the poems from this volume are translated into English by Jo Shapcott and Narguess Farzad.
During her brief stay in the UK Farzaneh will be attending the literary festivals of Cardiff, Ilkley, Birmingham and the British Library, London.
