Introduction:
Rouzbeh Pirouz will be the moderator of a discussion with
panellists Ali Ansari and Christopher de Bellaigue. The
discussion will center on the way in which Iran’s new generation
is participating in and adapting itself to the ever-changing
environment of today’s Iran.
The panel discussion will be followed by a
reception.
Dr. Ali Ansari is a Reader in Modern History
at the University of St. Andrews. He specializes in the
political history of the modern Middle East. Dr. Ansari has
previously taught at the School of Oriental and African Studies
(SOAS) of the University of London, University of Durham and the
University of Exeter. He is currently an Associate Fellow of the
Middle East Programme with special reference to Iran, at the
Royal Institute for Internations Affairs (Chatham House).
Christopher de Bellaigue has spent the past
decade in the Middle East and South Asia. He currently lives in
Tehran where he is reporter for The Economist. Mr. De Bellaigue
has recently published a book In the Rosegarden of the
Martyrs: A Memoir of Iran, which is about life in
post-revolutionary Iran. He also writes for the New York Review
of Books, Granta and the New Yorker.
